Dr. Vicki Anderson,
2013 Keynote Speaker
Before completing a PhD in
Linguistics at Indiana University Bloomington, Vicki Michael Anderson had the
privilege of studying for an MA in TESOL and Linguistics in Ball State
University’s Department of English. From Dr. Elizabeth Riddle, Vicki
caught a love for the English language and for linguistics; from Dr. Christopher
Ely, Vicki developed skill in teaching ESL and a passion for second language
pedagogy; from Dr. Carolyn MacKay, Vicki developed a fascinating for
sociolinguistics in its many forms. The legacy of these outstanding professors
lives on in Vicki’s current work in her native dialect of Pennsylvania
Dutchified English, bidialectalism, language variety shift and death, ESL
writing pedagogy, and ESL teacher training. She has taught ESL in
Indiana, Chile, and France, and she served for several years as student
representative, vice president, president, and past president of INTESOL (the
Indiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages organization).
